Position Overview
The Director, Government Affairs is responsible for helping to execute government affairs strategies and participate in the day-to-day work of government affairs at state and federal levels. The Manager/Director, Government Affairs will manage and grow Aveanna’s internal advocacy network, help to develop and amplify approved messaging both internally and with external stakeholders, and support grassroots advocacy efforts at state and federal levels. This position reports to the VP, Government Affairs.
Requirements
Essential Functions
- Partner with SVP and VP, Government Affairs and Company leadership to implement and grow Aveanna’s internal Advocacy Connect Network, including growing/tracking employee and other stakeholder engagement, assisting in the development of outreach messaging strategies, coordinating emails and other communications with Advocacy Connect Network participants, and assisting with Communications/Marketing and the development of collateral materials, as requested.
- Identify opportunities for grassroots engagement on state and federal issues and manage the execution of federal and state-level advocacy activities, including participation in federal and state association advocacy days, coordinating legislative meetings, home visits, community events, and related activities.
- Oversee state and federal lobbying and political activity compliance, including tracking state lobbyist contracts, managing lobbying reporting/filing in multiple states, political giving, and implementation of Company policy on political activities.
- Assist with research and tracking Government Affairs issues that impact the Company’s strategic and business interests, including legislation/regulations, policy issues, data collection, key meetings, and special initiatives strategies and projects.
- Manage Government Affairs software and related internal communications (i.e. updates, newsletter)
- Develop and conduct advocacy training for team members and Company leaders
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, plus experience in health care or a related field, preferably in a health care government affairs position or federal or state government relations position
- Excellent organizational, time management, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines within a fast-paced environment
- Methodical, detail oriented, efficient, organized
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Ability to analyze and synthesize substantial amounts of written information to accomplish job goals and tasks
- “Can do” attitude in approaching challenges
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships.
- Competence in basic PC skills required to perform job functions and willingness to learn how to use additional software programs specific to government relations support.
Environment
This position is remote, and employee will work from a home office.
Hours may exceed regular business hours, depending on business needs, and some travel is required, including Company meetings, state and federal advocacy days, and others.
Must be able to function in a wide variety of environments which may involve exposure to allergens and other various conditions.
