Position Overview

EMS Transportation Specialist – Pediatric Day Health Centers

The EMS Transportation Specialist plays a vital role in safely transporting children to and from our Pediatric Day Health Centers (PDHC) while providing attentive, compassionate care along the way. This role combines medical skill, safety awareness, and a nurturing presence to ensure every child’s journey is comfortable, secure, and stress-free.


What You’ll Do

  • Safely transport pediatric patients to and from PDHC locations

  • Ensure all required medical equipment and supplies travel with each child

  • Perform basic medical procedures during transport when needed

  • Monitor children closely throughout transport, remaining alert to their condition and surroundings

  • Ensure proper positioning and use of approved restraint systems

  • Secure all equipment and supplies to maintain a safe transport environment


Care Coordination & Safety

  • Communicate important information between caregivers and clinical staff

  • Identify and respond appropriately to emergency medical situations

  • Ensure smooth, accurate transfer of care during arrival and departure from PDHC

  • Maintain compliance with all PDHC transportation, safety, and competency guidelines

  • Complete required annual in-services and skills competency testing


Additional Responsibilities

  • May assist with direct patient care in the PDHC after transportation duties are complete


What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED

  • State-licensed or National Registry–certified EMT or Paramedic

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)

  • Current CPR/BLS and Basic Life Support certifications

  • Demonstrated proficiency in required clinical skills and competencies

State-specific requirement:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience or per state regulations

Physical & Functional Requirements

This role requires the ability to:

  • Speak, read, write, and understand English

  • Frequently lift, push, pull, or carry up to 25 lbs; occasionally up to 50 lbs

  • Perform prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and climbing stairs

  • React quickly and move with agility in response to children and neurologically impaired patients

  • Reposition patients and move equipment without assistance

  • Maintain visual and hearing acuity, as well as strong senses of touch and smell

  • Respond effectively to emergency situations, including prolonged CPR or patient evacuation


Work Environment

  • Exposure to various environments, including allergens

  • Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and infectious diseases
